You may choose from the following absolute rulers for this project:
Ivan theTerrible- Russia

Peter the Great- Russia
Catherine the Great- Russia
Louis XIV- France
Philip II- Spain
William and Mary- England
Charles V- Spain

Using the district database links research your absolute ruler and answer the following questions:
Who?  Who is this person and why are they significant?
What?  What are they known for (both positive and negative)?
When?  When did they rule?
Where?  Where did they rule?
Why?  Why were they loved or hated or both?
How?  How did they impact history such that we find them important to discuss now?

Once you have compiled your research, you will create an Xtranormal about your leader answering the questions above.  Mrs. Falcinelli and Mrs. Gridley will assist you with the research and Xtranormal.  Please remember to ask questions!

Globalization Project

Objectives

Students will analyze the scope of globalization in the world using a familiar American product to trace that product from innovation to international scale.

Students will determine how globalization effects their lives on a daily basis.

Standards Addressed  (World Geography):

11b:  identify factors affecting the location of different types of economic activities.

11c:  describe how changes in technology, transportation, and communication affect the location and pattern of economic activities.

22a:  design appropriate maps and other graphics such as sketch maps, diagrams, tables, and graphs to present geographic information including geographic features, geographic distributions, and geographic relationships.

Day One: In class

1.      Teacher will create a personal PowerPoint (Google images) of ten familiar products that are perceived to be American products.  Ex: Barbie, McDonalds, Coca Cola, Ford, etc…

2.      Handout 1 and reading questions  on the same page: (activity  1 from Globalization 101) discussion questions relating to the Globalization PowerPoint.

3.      GLOBALIZATION PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS sheet with poster layout.

4.      Homework:  Have students research several products they might want to choose for their project.  Help students with their choices by having them look at products they have an interest in.  (Sports equipment/apparel, or Ipod.)

5.      Students will create a Glogster, Prezi, PowePoint in the format described in the instructions.  A template is added on this set of instructions in order to better facilitate grading.  The teacher will determine the day the poster at school is necessary, generally not later than the third day of the project.

Day Two:  Library research

1.      Students will research their  product and by extension a company to research from the beginning innovation/invention of the product or brand to the available in today’s market.  (A good example is Lays Potato Chips.  They began as Lays, later merged with Frito to create Frito-Lay, then  were bought by PepsiCo.  These dates should all be on the time line.) The SCSD library links is a great place to begin your research.

2.      It is important for the teacher to approve the product choice in order to help students better facilitate their choice of an American product.  For instance, BIC Pens are a French Company.

Assessment

Students will create a digital visual with the required information, providing examples of the globalized scope of their particular product.
